After a morning visit with David, he suggested we drive to Blackpine Lake, another popular nearby point-of-interest. Getting to this lake was challenging even after stopping at the Twisp Community Center for a paper map to guide us. The main problem was the road marker where we needed to turn. The map said turn left at road 43 but there wasn’t a sign. Turns out Buttermilk Ln was the turn and if you continue, you end up on road 44. Once on 43 and staying left at the various unmarked forks. We did manage to make it to the lake. My brother’s new Kia Sportage AWD handled the gravel road and switchbacks well.
The lake was beautiful with multiple falls feeding it and creeks draining from it. Lighting in late afternoon was not great for photography. But the higher elevation cooled down the hot afternoon. Blackpine lake is a great place to swim and launch a boat or kayak. After struggling to get a few photos, I relaxed in the lake surrounded by thousands of blue dragonflies.
